NANCY:  What a crazy couple of weeks!  We did my interview for the show, went to Vegas, went to the PRO BOWL, came back, the next week had two major American holidays back to back - the Super Bowl followed immediately by Valentines - or PALentines - or GALentines Day!  Not to mention, the Olympics were on in the middle of all this.  There’s been no shortage of stuff to do this February!

CHRIS:  If any of that has inspired you in some way to start looking for a new job, or if you’re looking to add staff to your own company, check out Pinto Employment Search!  We are an executive recruiting agency specializing in Logistics & Supply Chain Jobs.  We’ve got all the details for you at pintoemployment.com!

NANCY: You’re listening to a special episode of the Job Search SOS podcast. I’m Nancy Pinto and this is my husband, business partner and Gomez to my Morticia, Chris Pinto.

CHRIS: We’re going to let you know which jobs we are working on right now across the US. For more info, you can find the full job descriptions and requirements for all the jobs we’re working on at pintoemployment.com.

NANCY: The best way to be considered for any position is to apply through our secure website, www.pintoemployment.com. When you submit your resume, we do NOT automatically send it to our client. We don’t do that until after we have a phone conversation with you.

CHRIS: If you do not match the requirements of a particular position, you can click the big red Submit Resume button on the Home Page so we have you in the system to be considered for future opportunities. Also, check back frequently to see if we have something that your experience does match.

NANCY:  Disclaimer:  Chris hasn’t read any of the trivia, so he’s learning this stuff along with all of you!
CHRIS:  We’re including our friends across the pond for this bit of historical trivia. There is a bridge in Lake Havasu City, Arizona called London Bridge, which was constructed using the old stones from the original 1830s London Bridge in London!  An American real estate developer had been having a hard time attracting buyers to Lake Havasu City.  When he learned that the bridge was for sale (because it needed replacing - it was sinking at a rate of one inch per year since it couldn’t handle car traffic), he bought it!  The bridge was dismantled, and the 10,246 blocks were marked, packaged, and exported to the US. The steamship line carrying the stones sailed to Long Beach via the Panama Canal, and upon discharge, a fleet of trucks drove eastward to Arizona with its precious cargo.  The bridge opened in 1971 and did, in fact, help tourism and community development.

Cross the bridge to visit the 1600-acre state park on Anastasia Island, and cross back for the many attractions in St. Augustine, including Castillo de San Marcos and Fort Matanzas.

Yes.  In addition to the normal cargo, the ship was carrying an array of exotic animals.  This did not make for a calm voyage.  According to the website Atlas Obscura, a Himalayan bear escaped in Calcutta, 25 monkeys got loose in Halifax, and while out to sea, a king cobra had his mate for lunch.

NANCY:  Well, this conjures up all kinds of OCD and psychological distress scenarios.  In New York City, roughly 91 percent of all crosswalk buttons DO NOT work.  When they were first installed decades ago, traffic and congestion wasn’t what it is today.  They can’t handle it.  Other cities have the same issue, but they leave them rather than pay to have them removed, even though there are more modern ways of controlling traffic.  Side fun fact, did you know that the “walk” signal is called the “pedestrian stage?”

NANCY:
Location: Harrisburg or York
Job:  International and Domestic Freight Sales Representative

Experience:  Relationships with importers and exporters throughout the market; successful closer; passionate about logistics and the entire sales process.

NANCY:  I’ve stumbled upon a bit of a mystery in Texas.  If anyone can shed some light, I’m all ears!  I recently read an old book about the Titanic called The Night Lives On by Walter Lord. In it, he mentions that after the sinking, the town of Ismay, Texas changed its name in disgust, no longer wanting to have the same name as the Chairman of White Star Line, owner of the ship, Bruce Ismay.  Ismay was one of the survivors, and it came out that he was against having an adequate number of lifeboats when the liner was designed, stating that the ship was already a lifeboat!  I can’t find any evidence of a town called Ismay in Texas, now or ever!  I’m just curious as to the history, and what happened to it.
